MISSION

Meristem, a not-for-profit organization based in New York City, promotes nature’s role in the improvement of human health and well-being through the development of Restorative Gardens in healthcare environments.

To that end we:

  • Educate healthcare providers, landscape designers, and the general public about the restorative properties of nature;

  • Unify the knowledge, standards of design and practitioners essential to developing gardens attuned to health and well-being; and

  • Cultivate a body of physicians, landscape architects, horticultural therapists, and  planning and policy professionals  committed to the improvement of patient environments and community public health through restoration of local environments.

Meristem, the botanical term, refers to specialized cells responsible for plant growth and regeneration.

Meristem, the organization, provides resources for the justification, design and development of restorative gardens, bringing health benefits to both people and landscapes.
